BOSTON, MA - May 12, 2015 - GW&K Investment Management (GW&K), a dynamic investment management firm offering active equity and fixed income investment solutions to meet the needs of a diverse client base, has been named the 2015 Separately Managed Account (SMA) Manager of the Year in the fixed income category by Investment Advisor magazine and Envestnet | PMC for its Enhanced Core Bond Strategy. This is the second time GW&K has received a SMA Manager of the Year award for the Enhanced Core Bond Strategy. The firm has also been recognized in previous years for its Municipal Bond and Small/Mid Cap Core Equity Strategies.
"It's a great compliment to be recognized for our investment process and the continued hard work of our investment teams," said GW&K's Harold G. Kotler, CFA, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Investment Officer. "To continue to receive such recognition from a publication and provider of wealth management solutions that we hold in such high regard, is an honor."
Candidates for the award had to meet rigorous criteria, including tenured management, a minimum threshold for assets, and be reported through Envestnet | PMC's PrimaGuide's research application. Additionally, finalists were scored by Envestnet | PMC's proprietary systematic multi-factor manager evaluation, which includes both quantitative and qualitative factors. Analysts also considered performance, firm attributes, people, process, style, customer service, and tax efficiency, among other factors.
Of the recognition, Mary F. Kane, CFA, lead portfolio manager for GW&K's taxable bond strategies attributed the firm's proprietary credit research in helping investment professionals identify the best risk-adjusted value opportunities. "To be recognized for our process, performance and investment talent in this area speaks to a highly sustainable investment strategy that we are proud to offer clients."
GW&K's Enhanced Core Bond Strategy takes an active management, multi-sector approach, employing top-down analysis and bottom-up research to identify income generating and capital appreciation opportunities, while mitigating risk in varying economic conditions. The Strategy, which is available to clients via a separately managed account or a sub-advised fund, currently has $838 million in assets under management (as of 3/31/15).
GW&K manages 16 distinct strategies across its equity and fixed income products suite. In addition to the Enhanced Core Bond Strategy, the firm offers four other taxable bond strategies: Short-Term Taxable Bond, Core Bond, Total Return Bond and Corporate Bond Opportunities. The firm's diverse client base includes corporations, public funds, endowments, foundations, religious organizations, multi-employer/unions, financial institutions, and individuals and families. GW&K had $24.9 billion in assets under management (as of 3/31/15), of which $5.9 billion were institutional assets.
